NEURONTIN, generically known as Gabapentin, is an anticonvulsant originally developed for the treatment of epilepsy. It is widely prescribed for the treatment of seizures associated with epilepsy and other types of pain, especially neuropathic pain caused by herpes virus or shingles.
Storage information: Capsules and tablets should be stored at room temperature. The product should be kept away from heat and moisture in a place that cannot be reached by children.
NEURONTIN, as any other drug, must be taken exactly as it is instructed by your doctor. NEURONTIN may be taken with or without meal. If you are taking an antacid, it is recommended to take NEURONTIN at least 2 hours after the antacid. Do not abruptly stop taking NEURONTIN. Consult your doctor if you are going to stop taking the medication or if you think you should change your dose.
Missed dose: If you miss a dose of NEURONTIN you should take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is time for another dose, skip the missed one and keep to your regular dosing schedule. Never take double doses of the drug.
Before taking NEURONTIN consult your physician if you have any kidney problems or are on hemodialysis, so that your physician could adjust your dosage of NEURONTIN. Inform your physician about any medications you are taking, including over-the-counter drugs. NEURONTIN may cause some people to become drowsy and less alert. Therefore, before driving or operating dangerous machinery or participating in any other activity that requires full mental alertness make sure that NEURONTIN does not have this effect on you.
In children, NEURONTIN sometimes may cause behavioral problems such as unstable emotions, aggression, hyperactivity, and lack of concentration. However, if such problems occur they are usually mild.
If you are pregnant or are planning to become pregnant inform your doctor immediately. NEURONTIN may appear in breast milk and could affect a nursing infant. The medication should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed.
NEURONTIN's most common side effects in adults may include: drowsiness, dizziness, unsteadiness, fatigue, vision changes, weight gain, and nausea. In children 3-12 years emotional instability, hostility, concentration problems, and hyperactivity may occur. If you observe any of the symptoms mentioned above or other unusual symptoms while taking NEURONTIN, be sure to inform your physician.
